End of Christmas

Oh poor, neglected blog!!!! I bet I have a hundred pictures or more on my camera, and a bunch more already on my computer, just waiting to be shared. I’ve been doing all kinds of cooking and eating, but…then I’m not sure what happens. Here is (probably, I think?) the end of my Christmas pictures. Seems like some are missing, though, so they might appear later.

Pitted dates stuffed with pecans, to hold us over while we waited for late dinner guests. There was a horrible snowstorm the night of the party, so it took everyone at least twice as long as usual to get to my house. Oh, and maybe the fact I texted everyone “ARAB TIME!!” had something to do with it. (Everyone knows when you say Arab Time, this means you are running late – but just how late, nobody knows.)

My beloved vintage Nativity scene, on the mantel above the dining room fireplace.

Candle holders I bought from World Market for the lunch Nadira and I hosted for the Byzantine Choir back in August.

I love using these dishes only for Christmas! On this plate, clockwise from the top: a spinach pie, potato cake, hummus, tomato salad, injera porridge, roasted cauliflower in tahini sauce, carrot spread, and squash in the center. And that wasn’t even everything!

Image
The table was not quite finished here, but you get the idea. We took away the giant spoons since they weren’t needed…plus why would you ever need such huge spoons?? Unless you’re eating ice cream, of course.

Missing is a picture of my infamous SoCo Cake, a super chocolatey cake soaked in Southern Comfort. Maybe I’ll make one for the Super Bowl. I don’t really care about the Super Bowl, but I like having a Super Bowl Party – and by “party” I mean excuse to make lots of food. Or perhaps for Valentine’s Day. The booze tends to preserve the cake pretty well, for long lengths of time, so maybe it will do well shipped via UPS to the object of your affection. Hmmmm……..
